Kurume Kasuri is a traditional textile that originated in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, during the late Edo period. It has been designated as both an Important Intangible Cultural Property and a Traditional Craft of Japan.From pattern creation to the finishing of the fabric bolt, the process involves around 30 separate steps, each requiring skilled craftsmanship and experience. It takes approximately two months to complete a single bolt of fabric.
Born from tremendous dedication and patience, Kurume Kasuri is cherished for its simple and timeless beauty. It is used not only for kimono making, but also widely incorporated into interior items and everyday accessories.
